Full view of Last Judgment painting; Mary with vestment, the clerical pallium, is located in the bottom left-hand corner of the painting.
In the bottom left-hand corner of this painting, Mary, mother of Jesus, is depicted in the orans pose. Additionally, she is wearing the clerical pallium, reserved only for popes and notable bishops. That the artists depict Mary wearing this important article shows her significance in the medieval church. Flanking each side of Mary is a woman in red, presenting to her a crown. Often depicted together, sisters Praxedes and Pudenziana also hold maniples under their crowns. As the maniple is the article that priests hold as they perform the Eucharist, these artists also portray Praxedes and Pudenziana as important women.
